State Plans to Expand Job Training

At least $10-million in federal coronavirus funds will be used by the state to increase jobs in areas outside the tourism industry. State officials hope to increase employment in agriculture, health care and technology. Legislation controlling the use of $1.25-billion in federal money sets aside $10-million for retraining and development programs for Hawai’i’s workforce. State officials think the effort can help diversify the state’s economy by expanding employment beyond tourism.
